Mediation
Mediation of Divorce, Modification, Unmarried Parents/Paternity, and other Matters affecting Families

A Mediator is a neutral person who is trained to help individuals who have a dispute resolve their differences and reach an agreement.  Mediators can help parties resolve issues in a divorce, custody, child support, enforcement of court orders, guardianship, and modifications, or changes, to existing orders.  Through mediation, parties are able to participate in solving their own disputes and are often able to develop more constructive and creative options and solutions than may be offered to them in court.

There has been a considerable amount of research on mediation.  Divorcing couples and unmarried parents find that mediation allows them hear and understand each party's needs and interests; develop their own solutions for the situation; tailor solutions to meet the needs and interests of all family members; perserve or even improve the co-parenting relations; and develop new communication skills. They also feel they have more control over decision and costs while protecting their children from the acrimony and bitterness that often arises from litigation.

Simone Haberstock McCartney has 25 years experience in family law; previous experience and certification as an accountant; as well as extensive training and experience (over 500 hours) in mediating disputes in family issues.  She has received her masters of law in Dispute Resolution and frequently speaks on a variety of topics related to mediation including innovative mediation strategies and communication in mediation. She is an approved family court mediator in St. Louis County, Jefferson County and St Charles County; a trained parenting coordinator and a St. Louis County Circuit Court neutral for civil matters.

We offer a free 30-minute orientation for couples and individuals interested in mediation to learn more about the process and how mediation can help. If the parties agree to proceed during the orientation, then we also establish an agenda for the next meeting and set appointments for mediation sessions.   We pride ourselves in trying to not only helping couples agree on unique solutions that will best fit their family, but also in designing a mediation process that will address the family's needs and ensure that both parties are informed and prepared to make good decisions.

Evening and weekend appointments are available by appointment.
